I am a little embarrassed to say that I watched this, but I saw “Sucker Punch”.
It was truly a horrible movie.
Additionally, it was also unintentionally very disturbing (in terms of the violence it visited on female characters for entertainment’s sake). Yes, going in, you know it’s going to be attractive women in short-shorts doing flips and shooting bazookas at stylized ninja/nazis/dragons, but it’s still sort of surprising the amount of callous harm the female protagonists are subjected to.
Given that, I was surprised that the director and actresses tried to mount a campaign where they did all these press clips defending the film and saying how empowering it was for women. Most baffling was that they seemed like they actually believed it.
This always seemed like ridiculous PR bullshit, but maybe I missed something. Could you examine it – or share your own thoughts on it.

Interesting! I checked out the Wikipedia page for Sucker Punch, which includes a section about its depiction of women. I’m getting the impression that it’s a rape-revenge variant?
